Cenelec Standards Inspections Limited -
Electrical Hazardous Area Installation Department

A BSEN ISO 9001-2000 Approved:

Electrical Installation: Maintenance: Inspection: Testing and Commissioning
of Hazardous Area Electrical and Instrument Equipment and Systems located
in Explosive Atmospheres.

Electrical installations in potentially explosive hazardous areas should be installed by competent
electrical engineering contractors, who by the very nature of their accreditation can
demonstrate their professionalism to prospective clients.

When electrical apparatus is to be installed in areas where dangerous concentrations and qualities
of flammable gases, vapours, mists, ignitable fibres and dusts that may be present in the atmosphere,
protective measures are applied to reduce the likelihood of an explosion due to ignitions by arc's
and sparks and hot surfaces, produced either in normal manufacturing process operations, or
under specified fault conditions, care must be taken to adopt policies and procedures
to enable that the electrical installations are installed to the correct standards and by the
correct electrical compex personnel. IEC.79.14 is the standard used in Europe (Independent
European Commission) adopted as BSEN 600-79.14 (part 14) and Headed Electrical
Installations in Hazardous Areas (other than mines) within the UK.

Cenelec Standards (Electrical Installations department) can guide and assist you on your
hazardous area installations from "Design" through to "Start Up".
